Frequently Asked Questions

We Have the Answers to All Your Vacuum Needs

  • How often should I change my filter?

It varies depending on certain circumstances, such as how often you vacuum, if you have pets, etc. However, yearly filter changes are more common.

  • How often should I change my filter bag?

Filter bags are often mistaken as bags that you would fill to the max and then discard like a garbage bag. In reality, the “bag” is the main filtration system in the vacuum and should only be filled about halfway. The longevity of the filter bag varies depending on how often you use the vacuum. However, about every 2-3 months they should be discarded.

  • Why does my vacuum feel hot?

Many things could be causing your vacuum to overheat. Most commonly, this is a sign the motor needs servicing. Bring your vacuum into The Vacuum Shoppe for a free estimate!

  • Why is my vacuum shutting off?

While all vacuums have different circuitry and protective mechanisms, the most common reasons for a vacuum to shut off spontaneously are the motor overheating or dying; the debris impeding airflow; a faulty sensor; etc. We recommend bringing it to The Vacuum Shoppe immediately for a free diagnostic!

  • What does it mean if I smell burning coming from my vacuum?

The most common causes of a burning smell are motor-related problems, such as water exposure, fine particle encasement, or the belt could be melting into the spindle. Come to The Vacuum Shoppe and we’ll identify the problem for free!

  • How can I make my vacuum last longer?

You should get your vacuum regularly serviced, just like your car! Regular service extends the life of the vacuum’s motor and other parts.

  • How often do you recommend servicing my vacuum?

At least once a year! However, if the vacuum is used commercially, it may require service more often.

  • Is there anything I should avoid picking up with my vacuum?

Vacuums are designed to capture dirt, hair, and dust. Water and moisture, extremely fine particles, and any substances outdoors should be avoided (unless you’re using a shop vac).

  • Why does my vacuum have low suction?

There are many things that can cause your vacuum’s suction to subside. Usually, it’s a sign there is debris impeding airflow somewhere inside. While that’s the most common reason for a lack of suction, there are many other causes! For a free estimate, come to The Vacuum Shoppe!

  • How often should I change the belt on my vacuum?

To ensure your vacuum is running like new, you should change the belt at least once a year! Bring your vacuum into The Vacuum Shoppe and we’d be happy to put one on for you!
